Wanni & Kilinochchi Troops Educated on Cyber Crimes & Social Media

Directorate of Information Technology (DIT) conducted an awareness programme on ‘impact of social media& cyber crimes’ at the Security Force Headquarters - Wanni (SFHQ-W) premises on Monday (19) on the instructions of the Commander of the Army.

Over 700 Officers and Other Ranks from all under command formations gathered to listen to the lecture, conducted by Colonel Nalin Jayarathne, Colonel Information Technology at the Directorate of Information Technology.

During the awareness programme, Participants were educated on maintaining their reservations regarding privacy in Face Book, Viber, Whats App, etc.

In addition, they were apprised of the adverse impact of posting statements propagating hatred, sharing sensitive security information and uploading unauthorised photos.

Further, the session also covered the legal implications against military personnel who are bounded by both civil and military law when engaging in unacceptable conducts through social media.

The programme was launched on the instructions of Major General Kumudu Perera, Commander, Security Forces - Wanni.

The same lecture session was conducted at ‘Nelumpiyasa auditorium’ in the SFHQ-KLN with the participation of more than 900 Officers and Other Rankers on Tuesday (20) under the instructions of Major General Ajith Kariyakarawana, Commander, Security Forces - Kilinochchi.
