Wanni & Jaffna SFHQs Contribute to ‘Walk-Unite-Heal’

‘Walk-Unite-Heal’ Trail Walk launched by veteran cricketers, Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardana that started from Jaffna several days ago for the express purpose of raising funds for expansion of the Galle Karapitiya Teaching Hospital Cancer Unit, reached Vavuniya in the Wanni on Thursday (13), to be received by tri service personnel of the Security Forces – Wanni (SF – W) and people in Vavuniya.

The project aimed at collecting USD 5 million for the noble cause will end up in Dondra in November after it started from Point Pedro.

Upon arrival at the Security Force Headquarters - Wanni on the instructions of the Commander SF – W, Major General Boniface Perera provided overnight accommodation and all other facilities for the participants in the walk including former Sri Lanka cricket, captain Mahela Jayawardana.

In addition, members of the armed forces as a gesture of goodwill made a financial contribution towards the project before the project restarted its journey on Friday.

On the directions of the Commander of the Army, Major General Mahesh Senanayake, Commander, Security Forces - Jaffna provided foods and accommodation facilities for the participants in the ‘Walk-Unite-Heal’ Trail Walk.

Subsequently, troops of the 55 Division extended their fullest support to the inaugural ceremony by arranging the St. Xavier sport ground and supported the collection of funds for the purpose.

Troops provided drinking water to the participants after the walk ceremonially started in Jaffna. Meanwhile, the 51 Division in Jaffna made a cash donation of Rs. 30,000.00 towards the project while the participants were passing the area.
