Wanni Commander Makes His First Formal Visits to 54 & 61 Divisions

The newly-appointed Commander, Security Forces - Wanni, Major General J. R Kulathunga visited the 54 Division Headquarters and major religious places in Mannar on Monday (2l). This was the first formal visit of the Wanni Commander to the under commanding Mannar area formations after he has taken over duties as the Wanni Commander.

The Commander was welcomed by the General Officer Commanding of 54 Division on arrival before a Guard Turnout at the entrance to the 54 Division saluted him.

As the next segment of the day’s programme, he planted a mango sapling inside the camp premises to remember his visit. Subsequently, the General Officer Commanding 54 Division briefed him on his area of responsibility.

Later on, a foundation stone for a new mess building for Warrant Officers and Sergeants was laid by Major General Kulathunga at the request of the GOC.

Finally, he addressed the troops and participated in an all rank tea party in the premises.

Afterwards, the Commander visited Ven. Ambagaswewa Sangharakkitha Thero, the Chief Incumbent at Matota Raja MahaViharaya, The Chief lncumbent - Murunkan temple and Rev Kingsly Swami Pillai, the acting Bishop of Mannar.

General Officer Commanding, 54 Division, Brigade Commanders in the 54 Division, officers and other ranks gathered for the day’s programme.

Major General J.R Kulathunga, Commander, Security Forces - Wanni (SF-W) on Tuesday (22) meanwhile made a field visit to the 61 Division Headquarters of the Security Force Headquarters - Wanni (SFHQ-W) with the intention of meeting the troops serving there for the first time.

The visiting Commander was welcomed by the General Officer Commanding, 61 Division, Major General S.H.P.P Perera, at the entrance to the Division Headquarters.

Major General Kulathunga, afterwards planted a tree sapling in the camp premises to mark his visit to the 61 Division.

During his stay in the Headquarters, he addressed the troops and urged them to continue their training and good work in the area while maintaining the highest standards of discipline at all levels.

He also inquired into the facilities available for the troops inside the premises. An all rank tea brought the event to an end.

He also received a briefing from the GOC 61 Division at the conference hall.

Towards the end of the day’s programme, Major General S.H.P.P Perera, General Officer Commanding, 61 Division invited the visiting Wanni Commander to leave a complimentary remark in the Visitors’ book.
