Visually-impaired Children at 'Vazvaham' Home Show Skills in Sports Meet


The annual sports meet of the Vazvazham children’s home, organized by troops of 14 Gemunu Watch (GW) of the Security Force Headquarters Jaffna (SFHQ-J) at Marathanamadam Girls School grounds in Jaffna, took place recently with the presence of a gathering of well-wishers, officers and senior citizens of the area.

Mrs Imelda Sukumar, Secretary to the Ministry of Social Services graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Almost all visually- handicapped inmates at the children’s home enthusiastically participated in the sports meet.

The inmates contributed to all the events in the sports meet, feeling that they are equals and capable of everything, like others in society.

Vazvzham children’s home provides shelter to 34 blind children in the peninsula.

Mr A. Rajenthran, Director of Education, Northern Province, Dr Malaravan, Eye Surgeon, Teaching Hospital, Jaffna, Mr. A. Ravinthran, Chairman, Vazvazham Children’s Home and Lieutenant Colonel M.G.G.W. Rohana, Commanding officer, 14 GW, were present there to watch their skills.
