Visiting Southern Commander of Indian Army Flies to Trincomalee & Jaffna

The General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Southern Command of the Indian Army, Lieutenant General P.M Hariz, now in Sri Lanka on a four-day goodwill tour called on Commander, Security Forces - East (SF-E), Major General Nandana Senadeera and Commander, Security Forces - Jaffna (SF-J), Major General Darshana Hettiarachchi during Friday (18) and Saturday (19).

The visiting Commander was welcomed on arrival at the Palaly airport by Brigadier Ajith Elwatta, Brigadier Admin and Quartering, SFHQ-J.

At the SFHQ-J, Major General Darshana Hettiarachchi, Commander, SF-J warmly welcomed the visiting Indian Southern Commander and briefed him on the role and tasks of the Security Forces in Jaffna and ongoing reconciliation process.

Subsequently, the visiting Commander and the delegation took part in a simple wreath-laying ceremony and saluted fellow Indian Peace Keeping Force (IPKF) soldiers who laid their lives in Sri Lanka’s fighting against LTTE terrorism.

Later on, both Commanders exchanged mementos as tokens of goodwill and memory. Lieutenant General P.M Hariz also left his signature in the SFHQ-J VIP Book.

Meanwhile, the visiting Southern Commander on the previous day (18) had a courtesy meeting with the Major General Nandana Senadeera, Commander, Security Forces - East (SF-E) when the former flew to Trincomalee as a part of the itinerary of his stay in Sri Lanka.
