Visiting Indian Delegation Honours Memory of Jawans

The fifteen-member Indian delegation, headed by Air Commodore Suresh Hollannavar, Directing Staff of the Indian Army Higher Command Course, currently in Sri Lanka on a six-day (Sept 24 - 29) long educational visit, went to the Indian Peace Keeping Force (IPKF) war memorial at Battaramulla Monday (25) evening and saluted the memory of Indian Jawans who made the supreme sacrifice while serving Sri Lanka against terrorism during late 1980s.

Colonel Anil Illangakoon, Colonel Administration, Directorate of Personnel Administration of the Army warmly received the guests on arrival as the troops of the Sri Lanka Corps of Military Police remained on vigil to begin commemorative proceedings. The visiting Indian Army General and the delegates were afterwards invited to the special dais.

Amid honours, presented by troops of the Sri Lanka Corps of Military Police, Air Commodore Suresh Hollannavar, Head of the India Army delegation walked to the memorial and placed a floral wreath in a solemn moment of memory.

Sounding of the Last Post in line with military traditions afterwards signalled the end of the brief memorial service. Before their exit from the venue, Air Commodore Suresh Hollannavar placed his signature in the VIP book where reminiscences remain recorded.
