Viru Daru Society Celebrates Christmas with a Grand Carol Service

To coincide with forthcoming Christmas celebrations, Viru Daru Society, the recently inaugurated Juniors Club of Sri Lanka Army comprising War Heroes’ Children, organized a Christmas Carol Friday (16) evening at Defence Services School, Slave Island, Colombo. The Chief Guest for the event was the Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya accompanied by President Seva Vanitha Army Branch (SVAB), Mrs Manjulika Jayasuriya.

The Chief Guest symbolically inaugurating the day’s agenda switched on the decorative lights giving a true Christmas atmosphere to the arena, on the invitation of the President Viru Daru Society Miss Deshani Jayasuriya.

The Opening Prayer sang by two members of the society gave a glittering start to the carols as members of the Viru Daru Society sang odes to Prince of the Peace, Jesus Christ backed by the Army Orchestra. A Nativity play was also staged before the audience during the itinerary of the eve adding more significance to the event.

The most touching moment of the evening was presenting Christmas Gifts to all differently-able War Heroes at Ranawiru Sevana. Fifty war heroes symbolically received the Christmas Gifts at the occasion.

A large number of Viru Daru Society members, members of SVAB, Senior Army Officers, Officers and Other Ranks were present at the occasion.

This Carol Service organized for the first time by the Viru Daru Society will be an annual event in the Viru Daru calendar.
