VIR Troops Salute Their Outgoing Colonel of the Regiment & Welcomes New Colonel of the Regiment

Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (VIR) Headquarters bade goodbye to their Colonel of the Regiment, Major General Jagath Dias in a simple ceremony, held at the Regimental Headquarters, Boyagane on 29 December on the eve of his retirement from the Army.

On arrival, the outgoing Colonel of the Regiment was received in a Guard Turnout and a Guard of Honour, presented by VIR troops after Major General Dias paid tribute to the VIR War Heroes’ Monument.

A troop address, a tea party and an officers’ get-together towards the end of the military formalities culminated the ceremony.

Meanwhile, Major General K.C. Gunawardane assumed duties as the new Colonel of the Regiment, VIR on 30 December at the Regimental Headquarters, VIR, Boyagane.

On arrival, the new Colonel of the Regiment was received in a Guard Turnout and a Guard of Honour, presented by VIR troops after he paid tribute to the VIR War Heroes’ Monument.

Amidst religious observances, Major General Gunawardana placed his signature in a formal document, symbolizing the assumption of duties.

VIR Center Commandant and several Senior Officers attended the events.
