Vidya’s 21st Birthday Remembered in Donation Programme

A group of donors arrived at the ‘Pungudathivu Maha Vidyalaya' in Jaffna on Saturday (25) and distributed a stock of school accessories among students to coincide with the 21st birthday of the slain student, Ms.Vidya Sivaloganathan when she was riding to the school in May 2015.

The visiting donor group, including Mrs. Swineetha Weerasinghe, Mr. Nandalal Malagoda, Mr. Mohan Shankar and Mrs. Vadani Shankar gave away a stock of bicycles, school bags, shoes, books and stationeries to all the students of Pungudathivu Maha Vidyala in memory late Vidya’s 21st birth day.

In addition, financial donations were also made to Vidya Sivaloganathan's mother by the donors as a gesture of goodwill.

At the same time, one of the donors, Mr. Mohan Shankar provided 10 scholarships each to the value of Rs 2500/= to be paid every month as incentives for deserving students.

Apart from the scholarships, Mr. Mohan Shankar made arrangements to renovate the football ground of Pungudathivu Maha Vidyala and also to purchase football boots to all football players in the same school.

Pungudathivu Maha Vidyala has emerged the champions in football tournament, in the Jaffna district.

The football team of Pungudathivu Maha Vidyala who had played barefoot won the championship, beating all their rivals in the district.

Troops of the Security Force Headquarters - Jaffna (SFHQ-J) in response to a request made to Major General Darshana Hettiarachchi, Commander, Security Forces – Jaffna (SF-J) facilitated the conduct of the event through the coordination.

Major General Darshana Hettiarachchi, Commander, Security Forces – Jaffna (SF-J), Army Officers, parents, students and teachers were also present in the event.
