US Coaches Here to Train Football Players at SFHQ-J Invitation

A team of veteran US football players spearheaded a three-day coaching camp for the youth and school children in Jaffna at Duraiappah Stadium, Jaffna during July 21-23 following coordination, done by the Security Force Headquarters Jaffna (SFHQ-J).

Major General Udaya Perera, Commander, SFHQ-J attended the inauguration of the project on Monday (21). Messrsr Gregg Davis,  Evan Davis, Charles Johnson and Rodney Petersheim with their team leader, Mr. Mathew Billman of Soccer Outreach Association, Pennsylvania, US carried out coaching sessions.

About 375 youths from different leagues in Jaffna, Valikamam and Islands, administrative divisions and school children took part in the programme.

One motive of this sports camp is to inculcate qualities such as patience, equality, courage and acceptance of victory and defeat alike.

It also was designed to help eradicate war mentality and assist the process of reconciliation.

Meanwhile, a similar programme, aimed at players in Thenmaratchchi and Vadamaratchi administrative divisions, was conducted at St. Michael’s grounds, Nelliady for three days (July 25 to 27).

President Sri Lanka Football Federation, Mr. Ranjith Rodrigo assisted the Army to organize the coaching camp. Colonel Vijith Subasinghe, Commander, 553 Brigade coordinated it on behalf of the SFHQ-J.
