Update: Troops Taking No Chance Look for Shrapnel in Salawa Cultivable Lands

Troops engaged in the reconstruction and relief activities in explosion-affected Kosgama area this morning (28) launched a new safety network and completed the search for shrapnel and other ordnances that could have fallen into surrounding paddy fields, chenas and other cultivable lands around the boarders of affected villages in Kosgama and Salawa areas.

Heavy machinery including tractors and other digging equipment, accompanied by about 100 troops reached those areas in groups and looked for possible availability of explosive ordnances or shrapnel that could have left unattended.

On the directions of Major General Sudantha Ranasinghe, Commander, Security Forces - West (SF-West), those troops would continue this search operation until the peripheral areas are cleared of even the smallest pieces of those shrapnel, enabling the villagers to re-start their cultivations.

In the meantime, re-construction teams who have so far completed a total of 556 affected houses, declared the repairs to another total of 26 more houses are now over and eligible for occupancy as of Tuesday (28) noon.
