Army troops, engaged in day and night cleaning, repairs and restoration commitments in Kosgama areas for explosion-affected civilians, in what could be considered a significant phase in the restoration of normalcy in public life, completed repairs to 202 houses by Tuesday (14) evening and enabled the occupants to return home.
Similarly, same troops commenced repairs to 78 more houses this morning (15) and expect to complete within the next 24 hours.
Sri Lanka Army, together with other services started the repair work of the houses and other buildings, including Kosgama Government Hospital which were damaged due to the ammunition dump explosion that took place at Salawa Army camp on 5 June 2016.
Meanwhile, Salawa Government Hospital was opened since Monday (13) after completion of its repairs by Corps of Engineer Services (CES) and Naval troops.
Similarly, a total of 1296 drinking water wells were fully cleared of toxic elements by Navy personnel and Water Board experts by Tuesday and declared suitable for drinking by authorities. However, water is still being distributed through bowers among affected people.
Meanwhile Kosgama-explosion affected displaced civilians, housed temporarily in temples and community centers came down to zero as all families have left those places by yesterday (14) according to ground troops, engaged in reconstruction work in Salawa-Kosgama areas
However, for better coordination, easy administration and to speed up the constructions work, the whole area has been now divided into six sectors.
Since last Tuesday (14), construction work got underway under the senior officers of respective services, nominated for each sector as stated below.
Sector one - Salawa I - 1 ESR of Sri Lanka Army
Sector two - Ranavirugama - RHQ ESR of Sri Lanka Army
Sector three - Anandagama - 11 SLE of Sri Lanka Army
Sector four - Boralugoda - 4 SLE of Sri Lanka Army
Sector five - Murutagama - Sri Lanka Navy
Sector six - Salawa II - Sri Lanka Air Force
