UPDATE: Only a Two Dozen Displaced People Remain to Return Repaired Homes in Kosgama

Kosgama-explosion affected displaced civilians, housed temporarily inside the Boralugoda Temple preaching hall came down as low as 24 members of 8 families by Monday  morning (13) according to ground troops, engaged in reconstruction work in Salawa-Kosgama areas.

Similarly, a total of 941 drinking water wells were fully cleared of toxic elements by Navy personnel and Water Board experts around the same time on Monday, and declared suitable for drinking by authorities. However, water is still being distributed through bowers among affected occupants in some specific areas.

356 tarpaulin sheets were meanwhile distributed for use in affected houses in and around Kosgama as of this day (13) until re-construction of their houses is completed with durability.

Entire re-thatching of roofs, replacement of damaged tiles, asbestos or tin sheets, repairing or replacement of rafters or sloping beams, wooden roof structures, ceilings, doors, toilets and all other minor repairs, etc were effectively carried out.

By Monday (13) morning, 20- 25 more families returned to their houses to re-start their shattered lives after troops completed repairs to those homesteads making their places habitable.

Meanwhile, the construction of Salawa Government Hospital is in progress with the labor support of Corps of  Engineer Services (CES) and other assisting teams.

Major General H.C.P Goonetilleke, Commandant, Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force and Major General Sudantha Ranasinghe, Commander, Security Forces - West, are continuously monitoring the progress of those projects.
