Update: Army Donates Exercise Books & Stitch School Uniforms for All Affected Students

Fully-geared up Sri Lanka Army troops, engaged in reconstruction and relief assignments in Salawa - Kosgama areas this morning (13) commenced the distribution of exercise books among affected 1349 students and the stitching of new school uniforms during a symbolic ceremony, held at St John Bosco Vidyalaya - Kaluaggala. 

Representing the Commander of the Army who initiated the project, Major General Channa Goonetilleke, Commandant, Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force (SLAVF) attended the main inaugural ceremony at the above venue by donating books to a representative gathering of 126 students in the presence of Mr Bandara Mapa, Divisional Secretary for Seethawaka, Ms D.M.S.K Dissanayake, Zonal Education Director for Homagama, Major General Sudantha Ranasinghe, Commander, Security Forces - West, principals, teachers and several state officials. At the same place, symbolic beginning of the school-uniform sewing by Army troops commenced with the objective of providing more relief to affected students. 

Under the programme, other 1223 beneficiaries, elsewhere in different schools in Kosgama were to receive those books during the course of the day. The programme has been designed to cover students in (1) grade 1-5 (2) grade 6-9 (3) grade 10-13 in all the schools, as per their needs. 

Professionals of the Ranaviru Apparels of the Army volunteered to sew school uniforms, free of charge to them, following a project, launched by Lieutenant General Crishanthe De Silva, Commander of the Army who a few days back launched the same at Kollonnawa for the benefit of students, affected by recent floods.
