UN Delegates Receive Update on Follow-up Projects in Jaffna

Two Colombo-based UN delegates this afternoon (27) met Major General Mahesh Senanayake, Chief of Staff at his office in the Army Headquarters with a view to extending greetings to his new appointment and receiving an update on the follow-up to the projects he has had earlier carried out in the Jaffna peninsula as the Commander, Security Forces - Jaffna (SF-J) before he took office as the Chief of Staff.

Lieutenant General Crisanthe De Silva, Commander of the Army on a directive made by the Ministry of Defence has accordingly advised Major General Senanayake to enlighten those two UN delegates on the status-quo regarding the projects that the Security Force Headquarters-Jaffna (SFHQ-J) had earlier undertaken with the blessings of the Commander of the Army when Major General Senanayake served as the Commander, SF-J.

The visiting UN delegates also inquired into the contribution of the Army to the ongoing reconciliation process, release of more and more lands, conservation of coastal areas, facilities that have been made available to fishing communities, etc.

Those UN delegates during the interactive meeting touched on a few other matters of interest to them including the scheduled UN deployment in Mali.

Towards the end of the meeting, Major General Senanayake presented mementos to both of them as gestures of goodwill.
