Two-day Workshop to Exchange Experiences on Psy Ops Inaugurated in Kilinochchi

One more workshop to share experience and information, in relation to psychological operations, organized jointly by the Directorate of Psychological Operations (Psy Ops) and the US Embassy in Sri Lanka commenced at the Security Force Headquarters - Kilinochchi (SFHQ-KLN) on Tuesday (19).

The two-day workshop at Kilinochchi, conducted by both US Army Pacific Command Officers and Senior Officers of the Army focuses on structure and purposes of psychological operations, information management, process of psychological operations, target audience analysis, recognition of propaganda and review. A total of 43 officers representing Jaffna, Wanni, Kilinochchi and Mullaittivu Security Force Headquarters are attending this two-day long workshop.

In addition to Sri Lanka Army lecturers, Captain Kelly John and Staff Sergeant Steve Partisan, both from the US Army Pacific Command act as resource personnel during the sessions.

The programme, closely supervised by Brigadier Athula Hennadige, Director, Directorate of Psychological Operations is an extension of the US proposed programmes, meant to promote civil relations.

A few weeks ago, a similar type of seminar, organized jointly by the Army and the US Embassy took place at Hotel Taj Samudra with the participation of 30 representatives from Bangladesh, Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Mongolia, Nepal, the Philippines, Sri Lanka and the Maldives.

Major General Ajith Kariyakarawana, Commander, Security Forces - Kilinochchi had given his blessings to the programme.
