MULLAITTIVU: SRI LANKAN Army troops, now engaged in the world’s largest rescue operation in the PUTHUMATTALAN ‘No Fire Zone’ (NFZ), upon evacuation of besieged civilians, were reportedly inching further towards the southern sector, close to AMPELVANPOKKANAI and VELAYANMADAM areas. The walk up to those areas has become easier, since no civil population was living there any longer.
Troops confirmed over ten terrorists were killed and their dead bodies recovered, following the operations. During searches conducted subsequently, troops found twenty-five T-56 weapons, three caps, one Pajero vehicle, two canter vehicles, one motor bicycle, one T-81 weapon, twenty-four grenades and two I-com sets.
