Troops in Tangalle, Ampara & Mullaittivu Contribute to Beach Cleaning Programmes

Troops in the 12 Division and 24 Division of the Security Force Headquarters - Central (SFHQ-C) and the Security Force Headquarters - East (SFHQ-E) to coincide with the National Marine Resource Conservation Week (Sept 15 - 23) to be in line with HE the President’s concept launched separate beach and coastal area cleaning projects in Tangalle and Ampara areas in combination with Marine Environment Protecting Authority (MEPA) and Mahaweli Development and Environment Ministry.

National Marine Resources Conservation week to be held every year to coincide with the International Coastal Day will be supported continuously by the Army, following instructions given by the Commander of the Army.

Meanwhile, as part of the campaign, more than 100 Army personnel of the 122 Brigade and under command battalions on Wednesday (20) took part in a separate cleaning programme in Kuda Wella area.

Similarly, under the supervision of Major General L.M Mudalige, General Officer Commanding, 24 Division, troops from 241 Brigade and 242 Brigade participated in similar cleaning programmes in respective beach patches covering Arugambay, Kalmunai and Thirikkovil areas which are also popular as main tourist attractions in Sri Lanka.

More than 1000 persons from all departments, local government officers, Divisional Secretariats in coastal areas, other sister forces, Police, civil organizations and school children joined hands together with Army personnel for the project.

Before commencement of the programme in the 12 Division area, managing lady Officer in the Southern Province Coast Conservation Authority delivered an introductory speech to the volunteering tri-service personnel, Policemen, state officials and all other participating groups.

Meanwhile, as part of the campaign, more than 300 tri-services personnel of the Security Force Headquarters – Mullaittivu together with Civil Security Department officials, school children and government officials organized a separate cleaning programme in Mullaittivu area during 20-21 September.

Troops from 591 Brigade and 593 Brigade and under command battalions participated in cleaning programmes in respective beach patches covering around 3 Km distance in Mullaittivu and Alampil areas which are also popular as main tourist attractions in Sri Lanka.

Officials from all departments, local government officers, Divisional Secretariats in coastal areas, other sister forces, Police, civil organizations and school children joined hands together with Army personnel in the project.
