Troops Swiftly Respond to Wildfires & Douse Them

Troops of the 12 Division and 11 Division of the Security Force Headquarters - Central (SFHQ-C) responded to the need of the hour and doused the bushfires that were fast spreading in four different areas in Moneragala and Badulla districts in the past 48 hours, ending Thursday (13) morning.

On being informed 18 Gemunu Watch troops serving under 121 Brigade rushed to Ethimale and Horombuwa areas in Wellawaya and brought two wildfires that had erupted in some jungle areas with the support of range officers of the Forest Department and villagers. About 50 Army personnel took part in the effort.

Meanwhile, troops of the 7 Sri Lanka Signal Corps of the SFHQ-C responded swiftly and reached Beragalakanda, Blackwood, Wewagala, Beragala, Udaviharagala and Wewarayalawatta areas to douse fast spreading bushfires after the troops were alerted to the danger. Troops jumped into action and brought the situation under control with the support of villagers in the area. A group of more than 25 troops of 7 Sri Lanka Signal Corps participated in the mission.

Similarly, 2 Sri Lanka Rifle Corps troops of the 111 Brigade, together with the Kandy Fire Brigade firemen brought a fire that was on in Gampolawatta area in Udapalatha on Wednesday (12).

Meanwhile, 2 (Volunteer) Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment troops of the 111 Brigade in Kandy took part in the control of a bushfire that erupted in Alakolamadiththa, Hatharaliyadda area with the support of the Kandy fire fighters on Wednesday (12). A group of 33 Army personnel contributed to the control of the fires that were spreading in about 100 acres of wild bushes.
