Troops Salute Outgoing SLAC Colonel Commandant & CoS of the Army

The outgoing Chief of Staff (CoS) of the Army and the Colonel Commandant of the Sri Lanka Armoured Corps (SLAC) Major General Ubaya Medawala was honoured in a farewell ceremony on Friday (2) at the SLAC Regimental Headquarters, Rock House, Colombo 15.

Major General Ubaya Medawala, the former CoS retired from the Army effective from 2 December 2016.

The day’s programme commenced with the arrival of Major General Ubaya Medawela to be received by Lieutenant Colonel Nagitha Bambaradeniya, Commanding Officer, 1 Reconnaissance Regiment, SLAC after he was greeted to a formal Guard Turnout.

Minutes later, Major General Ubaya Medawala in his office placed his official signature in a document and formally relinquished his responsibilities as the SLAC Colonel Commandant in the presence of Brigadier D.T Gamage, Centre Commandant SLAC and Brigadier A.L.P.S Thilakarathna, Commander Armoured Brigade.

As another symbolic gesture, the outgoing Colonel Commandant interacted with officers and other rankers of the SLAC before he was invited to share a cup of tea with all rankers.

As the final leg of the day’s ceremony, a street-line farewell of bade ‘Jaya Sri’ to the outgoing Major General Ubaya Medawala.

A farewell dinner will take place later with the participation of officers and ladies of the cavalry family.

Major General Sathyapriya Liyanage together with Council Members, Senior Officers, Officers and other ranks participated in the day’s events.
