Troops Salute Outgoing SLAC Colonel Commandant

The outgoing Colonel Commandant of the Sri Lanka Armoured Corps (SLAC) who was also the Adjutant General (AG) in the Army Major General Nandana Udawatte was honoured in a farewell parade on Thursday (10) at the SLAC Regimental Headquarters, Rock House, Colombo 15.

Major General Nandana Udawatte, former Adjutant General retires from the Army with effect from 10 November 2016.

The day’s programme commenced with the arrival of Major General Nandana Udawatte to be received by Lieutenant Colonel Nagitha Bambaradeniya, Commanding Officer 1st Reconnaissance Regiment, SLAC after he was greeted to a formal Guard Turnout.

Minutes later, the colorful parade in accordance with military traditions was reviewed by the outgoing Colonel Commandant, accompanied by the Parade Commander, together with Brigadier D.T Gamage, Centre Commandant SLAC and Brigadier A.L.P.S Thilakarathna, Commander Armoured Brigade.

In his office, Major General Nandana Udawatte placed his official signature in a document afterwards and formally relinquished his responsibilities as the SLAC Colonel Commandant.

As another symbolic gesture, the outgoing Colonel Commandant planted a tree sapling in the Rock House camp premises before he was invited to share a cup of tea with all rankers.

Mrs. Shirani Udawatta, the outgoing chairperson, SLAC Seva Vanitha Unit was also associated with the event.

As the final leg of the day’s ceremony, a street-line farewell bade ‘Jaya Sri’ to outgoing Major General Udawatte by officers and other ranks. A farewell dinner will take place later with the participation of officers and ladies of the cavalry family.

Major General B.A Perera, together with Council Members, Senior Officers, Officers and their spouses participated in all those events.
