Troops Plant Tree Saplings around Reservoirs

A tree planting drive in wet land areas surrounding Victoria, Randenigala, Rantambe, Kotmale and Ihala Kotmale reservoirs where hydro-power stations are located, got underway during September 28 – 29 with the cooperation of Sri Lanka Wanajeevi Surekum Padanama as per instructions given by Army Directorate of Livestock and Agriculture.

This programme was the second of its kind launched in the area.

Director, Directorate of Livestock and Agriculture, Colonel Buwaneka Gunaratne, Colonel General Staff, 11 Division, Colonel E.A.P Ediriweera, Chief Engineer, Kotmale Power Station, Mr C. T. S Gunasekara, Deputy General Manager, Ceylon Electricity Board, Mr D. M. S. K Thilakarathne, attended the inaugural phase of the project as distinguished guests.

Army troops together with school children planted tree saplings near the Selasum Linda area, adjacent to the power station.
