Troops Offer Expertise & Labour for Construction of Two New Homes for the Needy

Considering the humanitarian needs of two families in Veheratenna village in the 62 Division area of the Security Force Headquarters - Wanni (SFHQ-W), soldiers of the 62 Division offered their labour and expertise for construction of two new houses, thanks to the sponsorship, provided by the Social Service Foundation at Nugegoda Sri Dhammarama Viharaya.

On being informed of the plight of these two families, the General Officer Commanding, 62 Division, Major General B.H.M.A Wijesinghe acted promptly and coordinated with the donors who willingly came forward to take up the challenge of building those two houses.

On Saturday (3), a simple ceremony at Veheratenna warmed those two new houses upon delivering the keys to the beneficiaries in the presence of a gathering of donors, General Officer Commanding, officers and soldiers. A representative of the donors delivered the keys to the recipients of those Army-built new houses.

Beneficiaries for both houses, each worth about Rs 1 million were a family of five members and the other with four members who were selected on the instructions of the Grama Seva official and other authorities.

The project was coordinated by the officers and soldiers of the 62 Division, 623 Brigade, 26 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (SLSR) and 11 Gemunu Watch (GW).

Ven Bogambara Rathanajoothi thero, Ven Bogambara Ariyarathana Thero, Ven Bogambara Maithreerathana Thero, Welimada Chandra Vimalarathana Thero, General Officer Commanding 62 Division Major General B.H.M.A Wijesinghe, Mr Ajith Mahendra and members of social services foundation, Sri Dhammarama Viharaya - Nugegoda, community of Weherathanna village and officers and soldiers from under command Brigades and Battalions were also participated at the event.
