Troops Offer Artificial Limbs to Handicapped People in Kilinochchi

Troops under the Security Force Headquarters - Kilinochchi (SFHQ-KLN) organized one more round of distribution of artificial limbs among low-income group families in Kilinochchi area with the support received from the Centre for the Handicapped in Kundasale on Tuesday (7) at Kilinochchi Harmony Centre on the instructions of the Commander, Security Forces - Kilinochchi (SF-KLN), Major General Ajith Kariyakarawana.

The stock of artificial limbs to the value of Rs: 1.6 million was distributed among 30 handicapped civilians in the ceremony with a view to showing the Army’s humanitarian concern for their needs.

This programme launched as another community assistance project of the SFHQ-KLN, took place in close liaison with civil authorities and Grama Seva Officials who at first identified the most wanted before their measurements for artificial limbs were taken in consultation with medical officers in respective areas.

The distribution ceremony was presided by Major General Ajith Kariyakarawana, Commander, SF-KLN and Dr. S.S Attanayake, Prosthetist and Orthotist and his team in the Centre for the Handicapped in Kundasale who sponsor the project.

Earlier, on 13 September in 2016, the same project was launched in Kilinochchi and distributed a similar stock of artificial limbs among handicapped members in low-income group families.

The distribution programme was organized by the 57 Division, together with the 571 Brigade and 5 Sri Lanka Armoured Corps (SLAC).

General Officer Commanding - 65 Division, Major General Sarath Weerawardhana, General Officer Commanding - 57 Division Brigadier Athula Galagamage, Brigadier General Staff, SFHQ-KLN, Brigadier Jagath Rathnayake, Director at Kilinochchi District Hospital, Dr. Jeyarasa, Brigade Commanders of 571 and 573 Brigades, Senior Officers, Officers and civilians participated in the humanitarian programme.
