The northernmost point in Point Pedro 'Sakkotei' that provides a panoramic view over the sea and the edge of the island, now a tourist attraction among those visiting the Jaffna peninsula received a facelift under a beautification project, launched by Major General Darshana Hettiarachchi, Commander, Security Forces - Jaffna (SF-J).
The project, implemented by 55 Division troops in cooperation with resident civilians in the area set up a new symbolic luminous National Flag, clearly visible to offshore vessels and fishermen for easy navigation and re-organized the location, moving unnecessary solids and pollutants from the area.
By beautifying the location, this scenic spot would attract more and more tourists and help strengthen economic prospects of vendors and street sellers who make a living for themselves.
This spectacular spot of tourist interest which was given a facelift by the 55 Division troops on the instructions of Brigadier Jayantha Gunaratne, General Officer Commanding was reopened to the public during a brief ceremony, graced by Major General Darshana Hettiarachchi, Commander, SF-J on Monday (12).
55 Division Senior Officers, Other Rankers and a gathering of civilians attended the occasion.
