Troops Get Rid of Water Blocking Elements in ‘Irriya Ela’ Canal

8 Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI) troops of the 14 Division on being informed by civilians and local authorities of a heavy flood water blockade in the ‘Irriya Ela’ at Wattala rushed to the location and cleared it within a couple of hours before water levels spill and cause havoc in the Wattala township on Saturday (26).

With the increase of torrential rains, water level in the ‘Irriya Ela’ canal began to swell threatening a possible water spill.

Troops despite torrential rains went on removing watery plants and other blocking elements in the canal and facilitated the speedy flow of flood water.

Troops attended to the emergency and cleaned the blockage enabling receding waters to flow without any hindrance within a matter of few hours.
