Troops Ferry Stranded Civilians Across Mandagal Aru Bridge

Troops serving under the 66 Division of the Security Force Headquarters - Kilinochchi (SFHQ-KLN) in close cooperation with Navy, Police and members of local fisheries societies in Valaipadu, promptly assisted flood-affected and stranded civilians in inundated areas along Jaffna-Mannar road (A 32) as rains worsened during early this week.

Heavy rains disrupted the passage across Mandagal Aru bridge on Jaffna-Mannar road as the main road went under water, preventing the movement of the civilians.

On the directions of Major General A.P de Z Wickremaratne, General Officer Commanding, 66 Division, troops sought the help of Navy boats for ferrying stranded civilians and reached the Police and fisheries societies to locate alternative temporary accommodations for affected civilians or help them return to their destinations.
