Troops Douse Fire at Umaoya

Troops of  the 121 Brigade of the Security Force Headquarters - Central (SFHQ- C) in one more instance of public service, took immediate  steps to bring a fast spreading bushfire under control in the general area of Sadinhawela, Umaoya in the Wellawaya Divisional secretariat area in Wellawaya on Tuesday (5).

The fire that broke out late Tuesday night was brought to the notice of the troops of the 18 Battalion the Gemunu Watch (18 GW) serving Wellawaya area under the 121 Brigade who reached the area swiftly and brought it under control.

More than 50 personnel at ground level contributed to wrest control of the fast spreading fire.

However, they succeeded in bringing the entire fire under control by late night on the same day. The fire has unfortunately affected more than 70 acres of forest.
