9 Sri Lanka National Guard (SLNG) troops of the Security Force Headquarters-Mullaittivu (SFHQ-MLT) considering the living condition of an old couple in the general area of Mullivaikkal, offered their labour to erect a new shelter for them with the support of state authorities and Army troops.
District Secretary for Mullaittivu after their plight was brought to the notice released a financial grant of Rs 1 lakh.
The cost of the project was minimized by the troops using raw materials available in the area for construction of the house within a few weeks.
On Friday (16), a brief ceremony saw Major General Dampath Fernando, Commander, Security Forces-Mullaittivu (SF-MLT) handing over the keys of the new house to the recipients.
Brigade Commander, 681 Brigade, senior officers, officers and other ranks attended the day’s event.
