Troops & Civilians in Jaffna & Mullaittivu Join Together to Mark Independence Day

Security Force Headquarters - Jaffna (SFHQ-J) contributed to the successful conduct of the Independence Day commemoration ceremony at the Jaffna District Secretariat premises on Saturday (4).

51 Division troops of the SFHQ-J supported the conduct of the event with a parade, comprised of tri service personnel and members of the Police. School cadet platoons from several schools in Jaffna coloured the event through cultural presentations and other varieties.

Mr N Vethanayagam, District Secretary for Jaffna and Brigadier Marvyn Perera, General Officer Commanding, 51 Division planted two saplings of ironwood in the District Secretariat premises and added memories to the 69th Independence Day commemoration. Many tri-service officers, government officials, other rankers, civilians and clergy attended the event.

In the meantime, multi religious observances and a colourful parade, recital of the National Anthem, hoisting of the national flag, observance of a two-minute silence to respect fallen War Heroes, etc dominated the 69th Independence Day ceremony held on Saturday (4) in the centre of Mullaittivu town.

Troops of the Security Force Headquarters - Mullaittivu (SFHQ-MLT) with other formations in Mullaittivu area supported the conduct of it, for which Hon. Rishad Bathiudeen, Minister of Industry and Commerce attended as the Chief Guest, together with Mrs Roopawathi Kethiswaran, District Secretary for Mullaittivu.

Hon. Rishad Bathiudeen, hoisted the National Flag at the ceremony and observed a two-minute silence with others to remember all fallen War Heroes after the National Anthem was sung in both Sinhala and Tamil by the school students.

A military parade, comprised of members of the tri-services and the Police and a cultural procession of school children coloured the Independence Day celebrations at Mullaittivu town.

Major General Dampath Fernando, Commander, Security Forces- Mullaittivu (SF-MLT), Major General N.D Wanniarachchi, General Officer Commanding (GOC), 59 Division, Brigade Commander, 591 Brigade, senior officers, officers, other rankers and civilians witnessed the occasion.

Meanwhile, troops of the Security Force Headquarters - Mullaittivu (SFHQ-MLT) celebrated the Independence Day at the SFHQ-MLT premises on the same day.

On the instructions of Major General Dampath Fernando, Commander, SF-MLT, the National Day programme included hoisting of the National Flag and the Army flag, observance of a two-minute silence to remember all fallen War Heroes and other formalities.

In the meantime, troops staged a cleaning programme in order to clean the Mullaittivu District Hospital to mark the 69th Independence Day on the same day.
