‘Jayagrahanaya’ (Success) organization, led by Dr Anula Wijesundera, was supported by philanthropists, Professor Ranil Fernando, Professor Ashwini Fernando and Mrs Shanthi Perera, to construct a new house worth, about Rs 600,000/= for the widow, Mrs B.R.N.K Menike and her 12 year old son in the general area of Bogaswewa.
The initiative taken in this regard by Major General Kumudu Perera, Commander, Security Forces - Wanni was supported by Chairperson, Mechanized Infantry Regiment Seva Vanitha Unit. Troops commanded by Brigadier Prabath Dematampitiya, General Officer Commanding (GOC), 56 Division, and 563 Brigade troops constructed the new house.
The keys of the newly-constructed house were handed over to the family by Prof. Ranil Fernando, Prof Ashwini Fernando and Dr Anula Wijesundera during a simple ceremony, held on Sunday (22).
Major General Kumudu Perera, Commander, Security Forces - Wanni, Brigadier Prabath Dematampitiya, General Officer Commanding, 56 Division, Brigadier Ranjan Premalal, Brigadier Administration and Quartering, SF-W, Colonel Upali Gunasekera, Commander, 563 Brigade, Officers and Other Ranks witnessed the handover ceremony.
To coincide with the event, Prof Ranil Fernando, Prof Ashwinin Fernando, Dr. Ajitha Wijesundera and Dr. Anula Wijesundera conducted a medical camp at Bogaswewa regional hospital area and examined hundreds of needy people in the area for non-communicable diseases.
