Troops of the 583 Brigade under the Security Force Headquarters - West (SFHQ-West) with the sponsorship of Visaka Vidyalaya, Colombo , giving prominence to community projects, built a new house for a widow and handed it over to her living in Gallella, Dewanagala in Mawanella during a brief ceremony at Dewanagala on Thursday (29).
To a request made by Mrs D. M Tamara Priyanka Kumari, a widow with three young daughters has been living in an unsafe and dilapidated house under a rock for a long time, 583 Brigade troops initiated this meritorious deed of constructing a house for her on 15 March 2017.
The construction of the new house was done as per directions of the General Officer Commanding, 58 Division and the Brigade Commander, 583 Brigade.
Troops of the Corps of Engineer Services (CES) and 8 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (SLSR) actively contributed to the construction.
The newly-constructed house was symbolically vested in them by Major General Sudantha Ranasinghe, Commander, Security Forces - West (SF-West) during a ceremony on Thursday (29) in the presence of the Divisional Secretary for Mawanella, the Principal, teachers and prefects of the Visaka Vidyalaya, recipient’s relatives, villagers, a gathering of troops who built the house and several other senior Officers.
