111 Brigade troops of the 11 Division under the Security Force Headquarters - Central (SFHQ-C) this afternoon (28) quickly responded to an SoS call and brought a fire that erupted in a land adjacent to the Mailapitiya War Hero Memorial Park in Kandy under control within a few hours.
Two officers and twenty other ranks rushed to the scene and brought the situation under control by moving away burning tree branches and other dry materials.
It is believed that some people in the area had tried to bring the fire under control but failed in doing so and informed the troops serving close by in the area.
2 Sri Lanka Rifle Corps (SLRC) troops within a few hours extinguished the fire completely and brought the situation to normalcy.
