Nation-building troops of the Army working under the ‘Pibidemu Polonnaruwa’ district development project under the 'Rajarata Navodaya' on Thursday (19) began clearing and renovation work of one more tank, 'Aruna' of Medirigiriya Divisional Secretariat after a very brief religious ceremony.
The tank, belonging to Department of Agrarian Services remained completely unattended and filled with soil and wild bushes with no trace of canals or culverts found.
On the directions of Major General Sudantha Ranasinghe (Rtd), Project Director, ‘Pibidemu Polonnaruwa’, troops using heavy vehicles began renovation work as the said tank was used to provide water to thousands of farmers for agricultural purposes in the past before the tank dried up and left abandoned.
