Troops Assist to Douse Fires at Mahadiulwewa & Hanthana

Troops of the 6 Sri Lanka Armoured Corps (SLAC) serving the 221 Brigade of the Security Force Headquarters - East (SFHQ-E) and 111 Brigade troops, including 5 (Volunteer) Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI) and 2 (Volunteer) Sri Lanka Rifle Corps (SLRC) troops of the Security Force Headquarters - Central (SFHQ-C) separately took immediate steps to control two bush fires that were spreading in Mahadiulwewa area (Polonnaruwa) and Hanthana hill range in Peradeniya, Kandy on Wednesday (4) and Thursday (5).

Officers at the Rotawewa Police Station and Civil Security Department personnel also assisted the emergency, together with some civilians in Mahadiulwewa.

Meanwhile, another wildfire in Hanthana mountains was brought under control by 5 (Volunteer) Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI) and 2 (Volunteer) Sri Lanka Rifle Corps (SLRC) troops of the Security Force Headquarters - Central (SFHQ-C) on Thursday (5).

A total of 42 Army personnel, including 1 officer and 20 other ranks, attached to 5 (V) SLLI and 1 officer and 20 other ranks of the 2 (V) SLRC contributed to the control of the fire.
