Tributes Paid to War Heroes in Kilinochchi

A GROUP of twenty-five disable War Heroes and their families were symbolically honoured and their dedication lauded during another provincial War Hero commemoration ceremony at Kilinochchi Thursday (13) morning.

Thursday’s (13) ceremony at newly-erected Kilinochchi War Hero victory monument was attended by a host of government officials and tri-service and Police personnel. Governor for Northern province Major General G.A Chandrasiri (Retd), Ministers Douglas Devananda and Rishard Badurdeen, Major General L.W.C.B.B. Rajaguru, Commander, Security Forces, Kilinochchi, Major General Mahinda Hathurusingha, Commander, Security Forces, Jaffna, Ms R. Kethiswari, District Secretary for Kilinochchi, Ms Imelda Sukumar, District Secretary for Mullaittivu, Ms Charles, District Secretary for Vavuniya, Provincial Council Secretaries and councillors, Senior Tri-service and Police officers, a representative group of disable soldiers and family members of fallen War Heroes, civilians and members of Civil Defence Force were in attendance.

The ceremony, one segment of the series of island-wide commemorative events in the current War Hero week saw floral wreaths were laid at the foot at the Kilinochchi War memorial in hounour of War Heroes as the first itinerary of the day’s programme after the Chief Guest hoisted the National Flag.

The moving scene that occurred on the occasion included offer of flowers to the War Memorial by disable soldiers in the company of family members of fallen fellow-War Heroes. Invitees on the occasion showing their sense of gratitude afterwards presented gift packets to all disable War Heroes and family members present. The two-minute silence by all paid a tribute to their memory.

Governor for Northern Province Major General G.A Chandrasiri (Retd), Minister Douglas Devananda and Major General L.W.C.B.B. Rajaguru delivered brief talks on the occasion. Several cultural performances brought the commemorative ceremony to an end.
