Tri-servicemen & Family Members Back Home After Historic Pilgrimage to Bodhgaya

Tri-service personnel and members of their families who were taken on pilgrimage to Bodhgaya on an initiative organized by the Commander of the Army in close cooperation with his counterpart in India returned to the island this evening (26), replete with pleasant memories.

The novel project allowed 160 tri-service personnel and members of their families, including 82 Army personnel to spend time in Bodhgaya and other sacred places during three days (June 24 - 26), following coordination and all other facilities provided by the Indian Army on the directions of its Chief of the Army Staff General Bipin Rawat in response to a friendly request made by his Sri Lankan counterpart, Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake.

Indian Army provided free air passage to those pilgrims at its cost in addition to internal transport, food, accommodation and all other facilities during their stay for this goodwill tour.

This exchange programme, designed under the Indian Army - Sri Lankan Army (Army to Army) would continue facilitating Army personnel and their families to visit this most sacred place of Buddhist worship in India in future too.

Several Senior Officers were at the Colombo International Airport to welcome them home.
