Trainee Students at AVTC Build House for the Helpless Mother

In what could be seen as an exemplary gesture of rare nature, trainee students of the Building Construction Course No: 01 at the Army Vocational Training Centre (AVTC) in Kalaoya, Saliyawewa, extended their generosity by building a new house for a desperate mother, close to 22nd Mile Post, Neelabemma Project in Saliyawewa.

Trainee students, together with AVTC officers and other rankers, having responded to the grievances of Mrs M.P.D Hemawathie who is very old and desperate after her house was recently affected badly due to recent floods, decided to erect this new house through their own labour and cost, considering her helpless plight.

The project also symbolized part of their practical participation in the course. Colonel M.R.K.W.B Pinnawala, Commandant, AVTC also took an enormous interest in the project and wanted it to be completed as early as possible.

On Saturday (13), a brief ceremony attended by AVTC Commandant, Commanding Officer at the venue of the house formally handed it over to the beneficiary amid a blessing ceremony. The house recipient, Mrs M.P.D Hemawathie boiled the traditional milk pot and warmed the house.
