Tracks at Boyagane Ready for Mammoth VIR Motorcross

The year’s exciting motor racing event, ‘Vijayabahu Motorcross - 2017’, organized by the Sri Lanka Army Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (VIR) for the 15th consecutive year in Boyagane, Kurunegala will take place on 2 April.

Over 100 competitors, including some foreign riders are expected to compete in the event, so said Major General Ajith Kariyakarawana, Colonel of the Regiment, VIR and Commander, Security Forces - Kilinochchi, during a Media briefing in Colombo on Friday (17).

This year’s Vijayabahu Motorcross with 13 field events including two racing and riding events for underage competitors, expects to draw a large crowd.

Representatives of key sponsors in the event, including the main sponsor, New Lanka Furniture (Pvt) Ltd and the co-sponsor of the event, Sri Lanka Insurance attended the arrangement where Major General Ajith Kariyakarawana spelt out the details regarding the conduct of such a mega event every year.

Funds generated through the event are utilized for welfare projects of the Vijabahu Infantry Regiment as well as for families of fallen War Heroes and differently able ones.

A certain share of the income is also used for enhancement of welfare projects of serving Army personnel of the VIR, the briefing was told.

Addressing the gathering, he also explained proposed racing plans and the track condition.

Hutch PLC, CEAT, Kelani International Tyre (Pvt) Ltd, Honda and Elephant House have also contributed to the mammoth event as co-sponsors.
