Inter-Regiment Athletic Tournament of Engineer Corps of the Army ended recently at Diyagama Mahinda Rajapaksa Stadium, awarding the overall championship trophy to the 1 Field Engineers Regiment.
The tournament, intending to promote athletic skills among all Army personnel serving Engineer Regiments, continued for two days with the participation of more than 200 athletes.
Major General V.U.B Nanayakkara, Engineering Advisor, Ministry of Defence as the Chief Guest during the closing ceremony gave away the championship trophy and merit certificates to the winners. The inaugural ceremony of the tournament took place on September 13, headed by Colonel Commandant of Engineers Regiment Brigadier T.J Nanayakkara.
Athletes of 1 Field Engineer Regiment won the championship and the runners-up went to 8 Field Engineer Regiment. 14 Field Engineer Regiment secured the third place.
Private R.P.W.P Kumara of 8 Engineer Regiment and Private H.A.A Jeewantha of 4 Engineer Regiment (V) were adjudged Best Athlete and Best Ground Athlete respectively.
