Three New Meet Records Set Up at Army Athletic Meet


Sri Lankan Javelin Thrower Nadeeka Lakmali from Sri Lanka Army Women's Corps(SLAWC) established a new meet record in the pole vault event on day one of the 50th Sri Lanka Army Inter-regiment Athletics Championship which began at Sugathadasa Stadium, Colombo yesterday.

Nadeeka threw a distance of 57.57 metres to improve her last year record of 56.76 metres.

Sachith Maduranga established a new meet record at the men's javelin at the 50th while Niluka Rajasekara established new meet record at Women's 5000m 16.43.05 seconds. Rajasekara too improved her last years meet record of 18:02.67seconds.

.W.M.C.I.Wijekoon from Sri Lanka Army emerged winner of the Men's 5000metre event by timing 14 :31.54. D.L.Samarajeewa from Sri Lanka Electrical and Mechanical Engineers regiment (SLEME) finished second clocking 14:33.41 while R.M.Y.G.Bandara from Sri Lanka Light Infantry became third with 14:45.84.

In the women's Discus Throw event, E.P.Nilmini from SLAWC emerged champion while T.Anusha and W.A.I.G.Wisidagama from the same regiment ended second and third respectively. D.M.E.D.K. Fernando from SLEME bagged the Gold medal recording a distance of 15.75 metres in the men's triple jump event. I.D.S.S. Jayasinghe became second with 15.54metre while T.A.D.N.Tillekeratne secured third place with 15.18metres.
