They Return to East with New Glimmers of Hope

A NEW glimmer of hope and a smile was visible in them as they vacated their temporary Vavuniya Relief Village shelters and arrived at their former dwelling places in the east for resettlement.

A total of 297 families of 967 members arrived in Trincomalee, Batticaloa and Ampara areas on Wednesday (5) with their luggage using transport, provided by the government in coordination with Army authorities in respective areas.

Five hundred and fifty-two civilians belonging to one hundred and sixty-four families found resettlement under 22 Division in Trincomalee. 

Two hundred and fifty-six civilians of eighty-two families received resettlement in the Batticaloa area under 23 Division after they were received by the Army and civil authorities.
 
One hundred and fifty-nine people, belonging to fifty-one families arrived in Ampara, the same day after they found their new houses renovated and reconstructed.

Army and civil authorities after completion of registration procedures conducted them to their original places of residence in the areas.

Under the government’s “Uthuru Wasanthaya” programme, President’s Advisor Basil Rajapakse (MP) and a gathering of senior administrators, local politicians, Security Forces authorities, a total of about 3000 displaced people belonging to 652 families left relief villages in Vavuniya and returned to their original places of residence after a brief ceremony on Wednesday (5).
