Support Extended for Conduct of Trincomalee Inter School Western Band Competition

22 Division Headquarters under the Security Force Headquarters - East (SFHQ-E) in coordination with the Old Boys Association of St Joseph’s College, Trincomalee jointly organized an Inter-school Western Band Competition at St Joseph College ground in Trincomalee on Saturday (10).

The intention of the competition was to make students aware of the importance of co-curricular activities and offer an opportunity to motivate them and expose their talents in the sphere of western music.

Most Rev. Dr Noel Emmanual Bishop of Trincomalee graced the event as the Guest of Honour. The Chief Guest, Major General Aruna Jayasekara, General Officer Commanding, 22 Division, together with a few other invitees were warmly welcomed by the Principal at St Joseph College.

More than five hundred students attired in eye-catching and elegant dresses took part in the competition as bands started renting the air with their rhythmic and soothing melodies showcasing their band playing talents, amidst loud cheering.

The climax of the day’s events reached the agenda with the beginning of the presentation of trophies and certificates to the Best Band display teams. In the inter-school western band competition, St Joseph College won the 1st place and 2nd and 3rd places went to Hindu College and St Mary’s College respectively.

In a brief address to the occasion after award of trophies, the Chief Guest praised and appreciated all the members in school bands and commended them for their quality performances.

Gajaba Regiment Band team and Commando Regiment K - A Group joined the ceremony and presented Band displays and dog shows.

Brigadier K.P.S Premalal, 221 Brigade Commander, Mr N Vijendran, Zonal Education Director, Mr E Kugapriya, General Manager, Tokyo Cement Group, Mr R Ravikavan, Regional Manager People’s Bank, Trincomalee, Mr R Ranganathan General Manager, Ceylinco Life and distinguished invitees witnessed the competition.
