Supply of Free Spectacles Coordinated after Holding Eye Clinic by 583 Bde Troops

As part of their Civil-Military Coordination, troops in the 583 Brigade, together with the Base Workshop - Sri Lanka Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (SLEME) of the Security Force Headquarters - West (SFHQ-West) on Thursday (27) coordinated the conduct of a mobile eye clinic for the benefit of civilians in Embilipitiya area in Ratnapura District.

With the blessings of Major General Sudantha Ranasinghe, Commander, Security Forces – West (SF-West), the clinic got underway at Sirinaga Viharaya with the support of resident monks there.

The project which also gave away free spectacles to the value of Rs 139,500/= among civilians, affected by visual impairments during the same clinic, was organized under the supervisions of General Officer Commanding (GOC), 58 Division, Major General K.C Gunawardana and Brigadier Randula Hathnagoda, 583 Brigade Commander.

Troops of the SLEME Base Workshop actively supported the project by making arrangements and providing refreshments to the civilians attending the clinic.

A few more than 155 visually handicapped civilians reached the mobile clinic for consultations of the specialist eye surgeon, Dr Nimal Weerakoon and his medical staff for assistance.

Sponsorship for spectacles was provided by Dr Weerakoon himself considering the importance of the project.

Ven Tissananda Thero, Chief Incumbent, Thibolketiya Sirinaga Vihaaya, government officials, several Army and Police officers attended the inaugural occasion of the project.
