STF Captures LTTE Stanley Base

The Special Task Force yesterday took full control of the LTTE Stanley Base in Kanchikudichchuaru which was used by the LTTE to launch major assaults on the STF in Ampara and to keep hundreds of LTTE child recruits.

\'The STF was compelled to move into the Kanchikudichchuaru camp and neutralise the LTTE threat as the LTTE made use of this base as a launching pad to attack the STF,\' Military Spokesman Brigadier Prasad Samarasinghe said.

STF personnel have recovered generators and a large number of vehicles inside this camp after they moved into it last afternoon, Brigadier Samarasinghe added.

He said STF personnel have also found a hospital inside the camp which has been funded by a NGO.

However, the name of the NGO was not divulged until the investigations are completed. He said the STF personnel were in the process of removing booby traps and mines by last afternoon as the LTTE cadres had fled the area with their casualties.

Four STF personnel were injured during the operation to take control over the Stanley Base. (Courtesy : Daily News)
