Sri Lanka Army, now emerged as a force to reckon with as much-respected saviour of the Nation Monday (10) morning marked its 62nd Anniversary and Army Day during a colourful parade at CR & FC grounds, Colombo 7.

Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, Commander of the Army Monday (10) morning graced the peak of the day’s anniversary events as Chief Guest in the company of a large gathering of senior officers.

Lieutenant General Jayasuriya on arrival at the premises was warmly received and invited to inspect the Guard Turn-Out, accorded in his honour as the stage was set to witness the event.

Seconds later, the Commander symbolizing the official inauguration of the day’s agenda hoisted the Army Flag as everyone rose to their feet.

Immediately after the flag hoisting, the Army song, “Sagarayen wata-Me mage mau rata….Rakimu sada,” jointly sung by all those present, rent the air adding sentiments of patriotic pride and grandeur to the occasion.

The ceremonial parade with Regimental colours, accorded to the Commander, amidst fluttering Army Regimental Flags and melodic rhythms of patriotic songs in the background, continued for about half an hour as all eyes remained glued to the march.

The much-awaited moment of significance on the day’s agenda followed next as the Commander rose to his feet with his customary address to the troops, in which he called upon all Army personnel to prioritize national concerns and dedicate in a more vigorous manner to re-build the country and its infrastructure.
