Special Mass Invokes Blessings on Forthcoming Army Anniversary

The Army Christian Fellowship, representing all schools of Christian faith in the Army, as has been the practice for many years, organized a Special Mass on Tuesday (7) evening at the All Saints Church, Borella with the objective of invoking blessings on the forthcoming 65th Army Anniversary and the Army Day (October 10).

The event as part of the religious observances, prior to the exact date of the Army Day (October 10) commemoration, kick started with the arrival of Mrs Damayanthi Ratnayake, President, Army Seva Vanitha Unit as the Chief Guest. Major General Lal Perera, Chairman, Army Christian Fellowship and his spouse received the her warmly on arrival at the venue.

The special Mass and Thanks-giving service, was officiated after an introduction was delivered to the occasion by Rev Benedict Joseph, Chaplain of the Army Christian Fellowship. The holy Mass was administered by His Eminence, Maxwell Siva, Assistant Archbishop of Colombo.

At the outset of the ceremony, the Army Flag and all Regimental Flags were symbolically blessed as in all other previous ceremonies. His Eminence in a special move extended blessings on Army, Mrs Damayanthi Ratnayake, Major General Prasad Samarasinghe, Chief of Staff and Officers on the same occasion as a recognition of their commitment to the country.  

Around the same time, the Holy Mass prayed for the souls of fallen War Heroes and those went missing in action in the battlefields and elsewhere, and simultaneously invoked blessings on all Army personnel injured and are still recovering and those who are serving and members of their families.

The year’s ‘Commemoration and Thanksgiving Service’, organized by the Army Christian Fellowship, represented all schools of Christian faith and was officiated by highly respected members of the clergy, including Rev Fr Rev Benedict Joseph, Chaplain of Army Christian Fellowship, Rev Felishian Perera, Parish Priest, All Saints Church, Borella, Rev E.K. Yasaratne (Baptist Church), Rev Rohitha De Silva (Methodist Church) and Rev Lenin John Marshal (Anglican Church).

Several Past Commanders of the Army, senior officers, Chairman, Army Christian Fellowship and a gathering of Army personnel, representing all Regiments attended the religious ceremony.
