Special Mass Blesses Army Chief & Chairman Army Christian Fellowship

A special Mass organized by the Army Christian Fellowship Monday (27) evening at Christ Church, Colombo 3 blessed the Sri Lanka Army, Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Crishanthe De Silva and the Chief of Staff, Major General Channa Goonetilleke, incumbent Chairman of the Army Christian Fellowship who is completing 35 years of exemplary service in the Army.

At the invitation of the Army Christian Fellowship, Major General Channa Goonetilleke, Chief of Staff attended the Mass as the Chief Guest and was received on arrival by Major General Boniface Perera, Commandant, Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force (SLAVF).

The special Mass which also coincides with the forthcoming ‘Ash Wednesday’ in the Christian calendar of events began after Colonel Manjula Karunaratne, Secretary, Army Christian Fellowship delivered the welcome speech.

The Mass was administered by Rev Benadict Joseph at the outset of the ceremony and the subsequent Benediction prayer was conducted by Rev Wilson Gnanam.

The Vicar in Charge of the Christ Church, Colombo 3, Rev Charles Gnanam was also present during the special one-hour long Mass.

The clergy in a brief oration hailed the services, rendered by the Chief of Staff of the Army for the Army Christian Fellowship as its Chairman.

Around the same time, the Holy Mass prayed for the souls of fallen War Heroes and those went missing in action in the battlefields and elsewhere and simultaneously invoked blessings on all Army personnel serving, injured and are still recovering. The priests extolled the Army’s commendable roles in their brief prayer orations.

General (Retd) C. S Weerasooriya, former Commander of the Army, senior officers and a gathering of Army personnel graced the service.
