Special Forces Produced 229 More Officers & Soldiers Passed Out at Maduruoya

Nine officers and 220 other rankers who had successfully completed the Special Forces (SF) Basic Training Course at Maduraoya Special Forces Training School (SFTS) passed out on Saturday (19) during a glittering ceremony, headed by Eng. Karunasena Hettiarachchi, Defence Secretary at the invitation of the Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Crishanthe De Silva.

Eng Hettiarachchi attending the Passing out Parade (PoP) of the 47th batch of the SF Regiment as the Chief Guest, was received on arrival by the Commander of the Army. A Guard Turn Out at the premises saluted him. Minutes before his arrival, Lieutenant General Crishanthe De Silva, Commander of the Army as the Guest of Honour arrived at the scene to be received by Colonel of the Regiment, Special Forces, Major General Mahesh Senanayake and the SFTS Commandant.

After the parade commander reported to the Chief Guest, Eng. Hettiarachchi reviewed the Guard of Honour in the company of the Parade Commander. Minutes after that, the Chief Guest pinned the SF insignia on the graduates before the SF oath was read out to them. He also presented the trophies to the achievers in the 47th basic course at the same occasion. After a while, the Chief Guest addressed the parade and shared his thoughts with them as the parade paid its final compliments to the Chief Guest before the troops marched off amid rhythmic beats of Army bands.

Graduates as the final segment of the day’s event showed their skills in parachute jumps, Tae-Kwondo, combat riding, urban fighting, physical agility and combat efficiency before the gathering. They also sat for a group photo with the Chief Guest before the event drew to a close.

Later on, the Secretary Defence visited the Colonel Fazly Laphir Memorial Library, herbal garden and the tree planting area inside the SFTS compound and saw for himself how the premises is managed by the SFTS. Before his exit, he also did not forget to share a couple of views with the parents of newly passed out SF personnel who had come there to greet their children.

Major General Darshana Hettiarachchi, Commander, Security Forces-East, Major General Nirmal Dharmarathne, General Officer Commanding, 55 Division together with senior officers and a large gathering of relatives of the graduates, civilians and invitees were present during the ceremony.
