Special Dengue Prevention Programme Launched

A special week-long Dengue Prevention Programme, in addition to the ongoing projects of the Army Island wide got to a start this morning (1) at the MOH office near the Sugathadasa Stadium at Colombo 13.

25 Separate teams made up of 200 Army personnel, 25 policemen and 25 Public Health Inspectors joined hands together with the intention of identifying and eradicating the epidemic firstly in worst-affected Mattakkuliya area which has a dense population.

Those 25 teams will separately move into worst-affected areas in and around Colombo and search for Dengue breeding spots and other vulnerable areas.

The new initiative launched by the Security Forces Headquarters-West (SFHQ-West) following coordination done by Major General Sudantha Ranasinghe on the instructions of the Commander of the Army will continue till next Saturday (8).

The inauguration of the programme took place around 7.00 a.m. this morning in the presence of Major General Sudantha Ranasinghe, Major General Laksiri Waduge, Senior Police Officers, Medical Officer of Health, Health Ministry officials and Colombo Municipal Council representatives.
